With its focus mostly on ethically sourced gifts and products from around the globe, Mosaic is one of Whitstable's original boutiques, and it's such shops that lead the way in forming Whitstable's status as a haven for the individual privately owned boutique (far from the homogenized ubiquity of multiples). Hallelujah!
Mosaic was conceptualised and is run by Shernaz Dinshaw, who spent several years working with NGO's involved in developmental work in India, followed by a career with the media. Fatigued by deadlines, she decided on a complete change of pace; she fell in love with Whitstable, and decided to move here from Bombay - just like that!

The shop has been trading for the last nine years, and is founded on the idea that fairly traded products and ethical sourcing are not just a gimmick, but a way of bringing superior quality jewellery, clothing, crafts, and gifts to customers - products which draw their value and beauty from the traditional techniques of the men and women who craft them. The shop works with co-operatives, and artisans from countries around the globe such as South America, Africa, India, the Phillipines, and, of course, the U.K. The current product range reflects Mosaic's nine years experience and presence within the international fair trade market, and the products on offer are those carefully chosen for their quality, style, design, and fairness.

Introducing some of Mosaic's products, and the people who make them ...
Semi-precious stones, and silver from the U.K and beyond adorn the shop, and are available as a result of Mosaic's close working relationships with the silversmiths and artisans who's techniques and traditional skills bring these beautiful items to life. And if that's not enough, Mosaic also stocks vibrant hand made felt jewellery from Nepal as well as pieces by Sonya Bennet, Karen Hallam, Donna Collinson, and Carlo Verde, amongst others.
